Nama Pariret is the new album of 2022, by Mawaca performed by singers Angélica Leutwiller, Cris Miguel, Magda Pucci, Rita Braga, Zuzu Leiva, and Valéria Zeidan.
“Nama Pariret” is a trip to a capella female songs from various parts of the world, performed by six singers of the group who also assumed the percussion. The result is a powerful and intimate record that reminds the paths taken by women in remote and current times.
With an unprecedented repertoire, this project focuses on the forming essence of the group, started 27 years ago, when female voices were still little heard, outlining the paths taken by women in remote and current times. They are chants in different dialects such as Occitane, Mongolian, Ladino, Karelian, and Pugliese and languages such as Spanish, Xhosa, and Bulgarian, in addition to Portuguese.
“Nama Pariret” presents two concepts that permeate the work of the artists: nama is the vital force for the Dogon ethnic group of Mali and pariret is the term used by the Ikolen-Gavião to refer to beautiful things.
